Autumn In Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia

If you live in the United States, are or happen to be in the Virginia area and have not visited Colonial Williamsburg, you are missing a wonderful treat.  Fortunately, I don't live far and have the opportunity to regularly visit.  I suspect I have walked through the historical district more than one hundred times since I moved to Virginia in 1973.

Historically, culturally and archeologically, the venue is very interesting but photographically, Colonial Williamsburg presents a plethora of opportunities to make unique images.  I thought I would post some images I have made during my various autumn visits.

When does fall foliage come to Colonial Williamsburg?  In my experience, on average, peak fall color comes to Colonial Williamsburg about the second week of November (peak spring flowers and garden color is about the second week of April, just FYI).  That week can vary, but typically that is when I've seen the best foliage, golden fallen leaves on the cobblestone and brick surfaces, etc.  If you are interested in seeing additional images from Colonial Williamsburg, I have a gallery on my website.  You can find them here.  That gallery will give you an idea of how the historical area looks throughout the year.

Here are some fall color photos for your viewing pleasure.

In case you are wondering, the locks pictured are on the doors of English basements.  You can see one in the photo directly above to the left of the steps.

If you want to learn more about Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia, you can find their site here.   As I mentioned, if you are within a day's drive of Williamsburg, it may be worth a day or weekend trip to visit.  Also, in the immediate area are Jamestowne Settlement and the Yorktown Battlefield from the Revolutionary War.  The three are connected by a wonderful road called The Colonial Parkway.  A beautiful drive, especially in the fall.  Colonial Williamsburg is privately owned while Jamestowne Settlement and Yorktown are part of the National Park System.  I hope you enjoyed the ride!
