This is the, obviously, very picturesque Glade Creek Mill in Babcock State Park in the West Virginia mountains. I don't know if there is any empirical evidence of my claim, but I would bet money that this mill is photographed more, especially in the fall, than any other single structure in all of West Virginia. Second, I would guess, would be the high bridge over the New River Gorge.
I made the trip deep into West Virginia to photograph this mill and I think it is a worthwhile journey for photographers—if this kind of subject as well as the colors are of interest to you. These two images were made in 2011 with my Nikon D700. I think I can do much better now and I may make plans to go back next year and re-photograph, not only the mill but the entire area, which is full of interesting landscapes and other subjects.
If you have interest in this park and mill you can read more about Babcock State Park here.
Just for reference, this is a pretty poor image of the bridge I mentioned over the New River. This entire area is now part of the newest national park—The New River Gorge National Park and Preserve. From the bridge deck to the river's surface, it is 876 ft. (267m) and is more than 3000 ft. (910m) long. Once a year, the authorities stop traffic for the day and allow brave individuals to bungee jump off the side of the bridge. Personally, I'll pass on that! More information about it can be found here.
