More Photographic Resources That May Interest You

Visit my galleries at www.dennismook.com

This is part two of my take on photographic resources that you may find valuable.  Yesterday I gave you some blogs, today, I will highlight some sites that will give you information on gear and reviews.  Tomorrow I will post some educational sites that I think are worthwhile.

Digital Photography Review  This has about the most comprehensive site for learning about cameras, their specs, news about the industry and what forum members have to say about various cameras.  Two things I need to pass on.  First, their reviews are more comprehensive than any others I have read anywhere.  I do find take some issue with their reviews as they seem to grade the DSLRs and the smaller cameras on different scales.  So a 80% on a DSLR doesn't seem to mean an 80% on a point-and-shoot.  Obviously, the point-and-shoot is not nearly as good in every way, but they rate them similarly.

Second, take the forum comments with a grain of salt as you have all kinds of individuals contributing opinions that are sometimes good and sometimes vitriolic, hateful and without merit.  How do you slam a camera that has not even been released?  How do you judge a camera, good or bad, that you have never used?  That is the kind of thing of which you have to be aware.  But the volume of overall info about digital cameras, lenses and some other accessories is staggering.  I look at this everyday for digital camera news.
www.dpreview.com

Photo Rumors; Nikon Rumors; Canon Rumors; Leica Rumors; Sony Rumors; Pentax Rumors
All of these sites have the latest rumors and products about the various camera manufacturers.  Reading these for the past several years, they are pretty accurate.  I look at all of these as I have a keen interest in all aspects of photography.  I just like to keep up with what is coming.
http://nikonrumors.com; www.canonrumors.com; http://photorumors.com;   etc.

I am into Micro 4/3 format so there are a few sites that I like to read about the latest in Micro 4/3.  If you are not, skip this paragraph.

4/3 Rumors  http://www.43rumors.com/
Mu-43 http://www.mu-43.com/
Mirrorless Rumors  http://www.mirrorlessrumors.com/category/news/  Also look at the rumors page
Sans Mirror by Thom  http://www.sansmirror.com/
Small Camera Big Picture  http://www.smallcamerabigpicture.com/
Discover Mirrorless  http://www.discovermirrorless.com/

DXO Mark  This organization extensively tests and rates camera sensors, lenses and lenses attached to various cameras.  There are certain caveats that go along with their results as they test the camera sensor without taking into consideration the software by the camera manufacturer that processes the files in-camera.  But it is a apples to apples test so you can compare.  I like the difference one sees in how lenses perform when on different camera models.  The camera really makes a difference in how well a lens performs.  If you are a techie about photography, this is a site you will like.

PetaPixel  is an aggragator of photographic news.  Lots of interesting stuff and it updates frequently during the day.

The Phoblographer  Daily updates on new equipment, reviews of various photographic equipment, etc.  Well done.

LensRentals Blog  Roger Cicala does a great job in testing different lenses and equipment against their competition.  Also, provides some thoughtful information about photographic choices in gear.

1001 Noisy Cameras  General information about cameras and lenses, camera deals, news, etc.
http://www.1001noisycameras.com/

Lens Reviews  An aggragator of lots of lens reviews from other sites all over the world.  I find this very valuable when researching a new lens.  I like to look at 3 or 4 review sites to see what each says about a particular lens.  This site covers all manufacturers.

The Imaging Resource  Lots of information on cameras, lenses, printers, news, etc.
http://www.imaging-resource.com/

Serious Compacts  A site dedicated to the use, review and opinion about using high quality smaller cameras, rather than large DSLRs.
http://www.seriouscompacts.com/

High Fidelity Compacts  Another site dedicated to using smaller cameras rather than big DSLRs.

That should be enough for today.  Tomorrow I will give you some photographic educational resources.

Enjoy!

Thanks for looking.
