...it's nice to dig deep into your memory and think about something pleasant such as an old fashioned soda fountain. You know the kind. The kind that was part of the nearby drug store.
...the soda fountain is where my friends and I would get cherry Cokes and chocolate milkshakes made with real ice cream and fresh whole milk.
...the place where you could buy penny candy and chewing gum such as Juicy Fruit, Black Jack and Beeman's.
...the place where you could buy packages of baseball cards which always had a piece of bubble gum inside. When you opened the baseball cards you wished it had a card of your favorite player inside but mostly you got cards with players you didn't know.
...the place where you would take what you suspected was the bad tube from your black & white television, put it in the machine and see if it was good. If not, you bought a new one and plugged it into your TV. Easy fix rather than discarding the TV as it is mostly done today.
...the place where you could sit and read comic books that were on the rotating rack.
...the place where the trashy dime romance novels were purchased by, well, I don't know by whom. You know the ones—the paperbacks with the good looking busty woman wearing a low cut dress being held (sometimes looking distressed ) by the great looking younger guy on the cover. Somebody read them as there was always a lot of them displayed.
...the place that sold your mom makeup.
...the place where the pharmacist not only knew your name but the names of everyone in your family.
Yes, it is sometimes nice to escape to memories, if even for a few minutes, before being jerked back to the reality of today's world.
If nothing else, this post brought a smile to my face. I hope it brought one to yours as well.
Thanks for looking. Enjoy!
