2024 Road Trip To The West; Part IV

An iPhone 14 image through my windshield of my first view of the Rocky Mountains.  It has been
a while since I've seen them in person and it is a good feeling to see them once again.
All images in this post were made with an iPhone 14 Pro Max. (click any image to enlarge)

This is a continuation post of my 2024 road trip out to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks primarily to photograph large mammals such as grizzly bears.  However, along the way out and back, I planned my adventure to be able to stop at various places and photograph.  You can find Part I here, Part II here, Part III here and a post about what gear I took and why here.

Day 6 had me arrive in Bozeman.  I finally made it, just as I planned.  My goal was to travel over 6 days from southeastern Virginia to Bozeman, Montana at a relatively leisurely pace so I could explore what I may find along my route.  The mileage from my home to Bozeman was 2384.2 miles!  Not bad for a guy in his 70s!

One thing I wanted to do in Bozeman was visit the Museum of the Rockies.  My undergraduate degree is in geology and part of those studies was paleontology.  The Museum of the Rockies has one of the finest collections of dinosaur fossils in the country and I wanted to see what they have on display.  I was not disappointed.

Tyrannosaurus Rex is always a favorite.  The teeth!  It's all about those huge, sharp teeth!

The young man nearest to me is over 6 ft. tall, about 2 meters.  His mother told me she
is 6 ft. tall.  The leg bones are enormous!

A Triceratops is larger than I imagined.  One of my favorite dinosaurs, the museum had a nice
fully reconstructed skeleton as well as a variety of different species Triceratops skull fossils on display.

Triceratops skull fossils.

The museum also had an exhibit of mythical creatures.  I made a few images of them as well.  Or are they?  If they are in such a prestigious museum and educational institution such as the Museum of the Rockies, they would have to be real.  Right?  They wouldn't dare put non-existent, imaginary creatures on display in such a prestigious institution.  lol.

I'm not sure I would ever want to encounter a dragon.  I'm thinking T-Rex with wings!

Pegasus!

Unicorns are evidently real as well!

Next stop—Yellowstone National Park to photograph large mammals such as grizzly bears, elk, wolves, bison, coyote, black bears, etc.  I'm psyched!  Finally!
