Monochrome Monday; Old Point Loma Lighthouse

Old Point Loma Lighthouse in southern California. (click to enlarge)

On one of my business trips to San Diego I took the opportunity to explore the area to see what I could find that was interesting.  As I walked around the lighthouse grounds, it was obvious to me that the bright white paint on the buildings and fence was a stark contrast to the cobalt blue sky and would look great as a black and white image.

This subject reminds me of some of the subject matter photographed by some of the great photographers of the early and mid-20th century.  Photographers such as Paul Strand, Edward Weston, Ansel Adams, Carleton Watkins, John Sexton and others recorded subjects that recorded some of the dramatic contrasts of their compositions.

    1. B&W conversion of a color digital file. However, due to how blue the sky was, if I had had my Pentax 6X7 and Tri-X film, a red filter would have done the same.
