Independence Day 2022.
Although it feels as though the symbolism for which our flag stands may be a bit tattered these tumultuous days, our country is strong and getting better each year. Others may not feel that way but I do. We certainly aren't perfect. No person, government or country is. We still have a ways to go but the potential of the United States to be even greater is a goal towards which all of us should work.
While I think it is important to acknowledge the negative and learn from our failures but we shouldn't obsess over them. It is much more productive to highlight the positives, the good things and build upon them.
During my recent cross-country, coast-to-coast road trip, I met a lot of ordinary people in small towns all across this vast land. Contrary to what you may see or read in the news, no one was hateful, argumentative, short tempered or ill willed. Everyone I met was kind, generous, in good spirits and very helpful. Everyone had a smile on his or her face. That is the story of the 'real' America.
Happy Birthday America!
Thanks for looking. Enjoy!
