Colonial Williamsburg Walkabout; Part I

Monday was one of those rare summer days we occasionally have around here in which the sun was shining, the sky was blue, the humidity was relatively low and the temperatures were in the 70s F (~22-27 C).  A perfect day to get out, go for a walk with my camera and wander.  But where?

Although I live fairly close to Williamsburg, Virginia and I more often drive to the Colonial Parkway near Williamsburg to photograph raptors than I do to visit the populated areas.  In fact, I hadn't been to visit the 18th century historic Colonial Williamsburg in quite a while.  I've been there many, many times to photograph over the past decades but I hadn't visited in over a year.  There wouldn't be a better day to grab a camera and lens, drive to Colonial Williamsburg and then just stroll through the historic area photographing whatever caught my eye.  Also, still being early in the season it won't yet be crowded.  Perfect plan!

I don't want to sound like a shill or tourist advertisement for Colonial Williamsburg, but it is a wonderful place to visit if you enjoy history and 18th century American culture and it chock full of visual interest with period re-enactors, horse and oxen driven carriages, restored homes and businesses, the government buildings of the Old Colonial Virginia Capital and wonderful gardens.  To me, it is a place everyone should see at least once.

Here are some of the images I made.  I will post some additional images on Friday from my short, hour and a half walkabout.

All images were made with a Nikon Z7 and the 24-70mm f/4 S lens handheld.  You can "click to enlarge" any and all images.

The purpose of my little walkabout was not to find and create masterpiece images, as none of these certainly are, but simply to be outside with my camera on a nice day in an interesting place.

If you are interested in seeing more Colonial Williamsburg images, I have a gallery of some of my past on my website.  I'll be adding these and some additional soon.

I'll post the remainder on Friday.
