Comfort Food

Its always a beautiful day to go out and photograph! (click to enlarge)

To me photography is like comfort food.  Photography is like a great bowl of chili, homemade vegetable soup, savory beef stew, a slice of your favorite pizza, a juicy burger or a lunch of tomato soup with a grilled cheese sandwich.  We don't need comfort food, it probably isn't that good for us, but it sure feels good to have it and there is a level of satisfaction you get that you just can't get from most healthy food.  Like comfort food, I don't need photography but it sure makes me feel good.

Photography soothes my soul and scratches an itch.  It brings pleasure and joy.  It allows me to create something I can enjoy and for others to enjoy as well.  Whenever I'm feeling uninspired, lackluster or blah, I just pick up my camera, head out of the door and immediately when I see something worth photographing, my mood changes.  I quickly get very focused on seeing everything in my environment and soon potential photographs appear everywhere.  Better than that, I find myself smiling, ear to ear.  Works every time.

Now that spring is here in the Northern Hemisphere (and gorgeous Autumn in the Southern), going outside to photograph will be even more pleasant as the renewal of life that we see all around us can provide that impetus to create some images of extraordinary beauty!

My advice is to partake of some of the comfort food we call photography.  Grab your favorite kit and go out and find something that stimulates you to make photographs, then share them.  Half of the satisfaction of creating interesting images is sharing them with others.  But you know that.

Have a great photographic weekend!
