Happy Birthday Jimmy Walker!

Photographer Jimmy Walker and his 90th birthday cake! Yesterday I had the pleasure of sharing
 lunch with Jimmy and a number of close friends to celebrate his birthday.

Today is the 90th birthday of my good friend and fellow photographer Jimmy Walker.  Happy Birthday, my friend!

Jimmy had an illustrious career as as photographer and photojournalist with one of the premier newspapers in this country known for the highest quality of photography, the Norfolk Virginian-Pilot.  The Director of Photography only hired the best and its photographers were regular national award winners.  Internships were cherished positions and many photographers from the V-P went on to be nationally and internationally known and work for such publications as National Geographic and others of such standing.  The newspaper was a breeding ground for excellent photography.  In other words, if you were a photographer for the Virginian-Pilot, you were one of the best photojournalists in the country.

Not only is Jimmy Walker a superb photographer but he is also is a class act.  He always did his job with enthusiasm and with great compassion.  He is an example for all of us, great husband, patriot, has a great sense of humor, caring and is a great friend.  He always took time for others (still does) and freely shares his knowledge.  I feel very fortunate to be his friend.  I just wish I were half the photographer he still is.

To illustrate how passionate about photography Jimmy still is, ask him anything about any camera system, digital or film, as well as the photographic industry and he will have the answer.  He still keeps up with everything photographic.  He has never lost interest.  He is still dedicated to his profession.

Happy Birthday Jimmy.  May you enjoy your day, this year and many years to come with clear mind, good health and the love our your wonderful family.  Now get out there and make some photographs!  Age is no excuse!  Lol.
