A Few Images From My "Wildlife" Weekend

As I previously had mentioned, I spent last weekend prowling the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge looking for snow geese, tundra swans, ducks, herons, egrets and any other mammal or fowl I could find to photograph.  I used both my Fujifilm X-T3 attached to the Fujifilm 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 lens (without and with the 1.4x tele-converter) as well as my Olympus E-M1 Mark II attached to the Olympus 300mm f/4 PRO lens (also without and with its tele-converter).  Besides wanting to get out of the house, break the winter routine, practice wildlife photography (and I need infinitely more practice!) as well as get my creative juices flowing once again, I also wanted to find out which of the two camera/lens combinations produced a higher rate of success based upon the subject matter and my skill level.

Its been a busy week since I returned home and I haven't been through all of my images yet nor have I been able to complete any sort of comprehensive analysis but I wanted to give an update and post a few of my images here.  Hopefully, I will have had time to get through them all and make a determination.  Preliminarily, both systems could have done better with tracking large birds-in-flight or it may have been my skill level that produced less than great results.  We'll see.  I think that if you are a bird photographer, you are still better off with a Nikon D850 or D500 which has been proven to do better in these types of situations.  I don't think either Fujifilm nor Olympus is quite up to that level yet.

It wasn't all wildlife.  There were several other non-wildlife images I made as well, this being a sunset through
the trees on Assateague Island, Virginia (click to enlarge)

Lots of distractions from photography this week, unfortunately.  Later this week when I have a bit more time, I can post about what I saw as the differences between the two gear combinations.
