Farmhouse in Cotton Field (click to enlarge) Olympus E-M1, 40-150mm f/2.8 Pro lens @ 90mm; 1/1250th sec. @ f/5.6; ISO 200 |
As I drove into the countryside, I noticed that the cotton fields here in southeastern Virginia were full of mature cotton and ripe for the picking. I thought about stopping and photographing a cotton field, but I wanted to find one that had some interest beyond just cotton plants ready to be picked.
Along one rural road, I found the scene shown above. Perfect! I thought. Cotton growing high, an old abandoned farm house and outbuilding, a bit of color in the trees in the background with some blue sky thrown in for contrasting color.
I parked on the side of the road and made several images with different compositions and different focal lengths. First images of the day! When finding something that is visually interesting to me, it always makes me feel good.
After about 15-20 minutes, I was on my way with a smile. Serendipity!
Here are some of the other compositions from the same scene.
