Actor in Period Costume in Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia

More of my images can be found here.

I have the delightful advantage of living about a one half hour drive from Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown and Yorktown, what is called Virginia's Historical Triangle.  That means I have the opportunity to easily drive to any of these three places at almost any time.  I take those opportunities regularly, going in all four seasons, early mornings, late evenings,  and, especially before Christmas, when they have handmade, authentic colonial period, door and window ornaments made from fruit, dried greenery and dried flowers on every home.

One of the nice aspects of Colonial Williamsburg is the ability to walk around the historic areas and make images.  Everyday, they have actors dressed in period clothing who interact with the visitors.  I have photographed many, many of them over the years.  They are always willing to ignore you so as to photograph them doing what they are doing, or stop and pose for a quick portrait.

The second week of April seems to be the peak week for the numerous flower gardens, shrubs and trees to be in full bloom, while the second week in November is typically the peak week for fall foliage color.  Of course those can vary with the weather, but it has been pretty consistent over the years.

If you are in southeastern Virginia, I recommend you stop at all three of these venues.  Not only are they historically significant and very interesting, they are wonderful opportunities to make some great images.

Thanks for looking.  Enjoy!
