Are You Having Fun With Your Photography?

Ghost Forest
My images live at Dennis Mook Photography so please check them out when you have a chance.  Thank you!

Are you having fun with your photography?  Are your photographic efforts joyful?  Do you really like to pick up a camera and make images?  Does photography relieve some of the stresses in your life?  Is making images an escape from your daily routine?

If the answer is no to any of these questions, then you are doing something wrong.  You should be having fun and feeling much enjoyment every time you make images.  You should feel exhilarated, satisfied and walk away smiling, even if you put maximum effort into getting a really difficult shot.  When you don't get the shot, you should still feel good about yourself for trying hard.

If you are not feeling good about your photography you may be taking yourself much too seriously as an artist, taking yourself much too seriously as a photographer and making photography too much like work, even if your a professional.

You may have the wrong equipment.  You may want to examine with what you make images and, if it doesn't really fit you, your way of making images or won't allow you to make the images you really want to make, then get the gear that will.

You may need a change of pace.  If you are routinely making images of the same things, week after week or year after year, try some totally different kinds of photography.  You may find your vision has expanded, your skills have improve and yourself energized.

If I'm in the doldrums, I can reach for my gear, go out and look around for interesting images, and almost immediately feel much better.  I love going out with my gear and exploring.  I love making images.  Even if I go out all day and don't find a single subject which would make me pick up my camera and click the shutter, I still feel good.  Its the hunt!

I truly hope you are having fun with your photography and enjoy it as much as I do.  If you don't, only you can make the decision to do something about it.

Thanks for looking.  Enjoy!
