| Amtrak train #40, the Floridian, travels north through Stony Creek, Virginia at 79mph. Fujifilm X100VI; 1/2000th sec. @ f/8; ISO 1250; Train subject detection. (Click to enlarge) |
I haven’t posted a railroad themed photo here in quite some time. When I was out photographing that one day last week, I knew the Amtrak train #40, the Floridian (Miami > Chicago via Washington, D.C.), would be traveling north through Virginia and be near my location sometime around noon. So, I drove the few miles to the railroad tracks and found a spot which would make a decent ‘train’ photo, as they say. After arriving, I preset my camera’s settings, found what I thought was a decent composition then waited the 15 minutes for the train to roar past.
At 79mph the event doesn’t last long. If you aren’t ready or need to fiddle with camera settings, you’ll miss it.
To all you railfans, nothing special here. Just enjoy this bonus post!
