The Hackberry General Store in Hackberry, Arizona is a worthwhile stop along Historic Route 66. Hackberry is located between Kingman to the west and Seligman to the east. The town of Hackberry consists of about 334 residents, a few streets, homes and maybe another business or two. The general store is actually located across the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad mainline from the rest of the town.
I spotted this old music hall at the rear of the general store property. What caught my attention was that I thought it being open air and having an old piano sitting on the stage was adherent. Also, no seats, no electricity and no water. Just a place to play a piano and possibly sing as well. Unique.
If you are a photographer and like Americana, old rusted cars & trucks, old signs, old gas pumps and other old stuff, the Hackberry General Store and its grounds present a multitude of photographic opportunities. I have made dozens of images here on this trip and well as past trips. Each time, I see changes and new compositions. Also, there is a myriad of Route 66 memorabilia available for purchase if that is your thing.
In case you are wondering, here is a photo of the Hackberry General Store that I made on my last visit a few years ago.
By the way, the sky was real in The Music Hall photo. I may have enhanced it a bit, but it was a rare, thunderstormy (I don’t think ‘thunderstormy’ is really a word) and rainy day in the desert.
Thanks for looking. Enjoy!
