The "Barbara L." She used to be a fine example of a Chesapeake Bay Deadrise. Deadrise workboats are still used today for crabbing and fishing for oysters. (click to enlarge) |
I wonder what the story is behind this old deadrise oyster boat, now just a derelict? One of the reasons I enjoy photographing these kinds of subjects is that they allow me to wonder what was, what happened, who was involved and why?
The "Barbara L" has surely seen better days. I have watched her deteriorate over the past several years. Sometimes she was sitting on the bottom, sometimes floating once again. The last time I checked, she was gone. I had been told in the past by the owner that he planned on making the necessary repairs to to seaworthy once again, but I have a feeling she was hauled away as scrap. Sad.
The stories she could tell!
Thanks for looking. Enjoy!
