Wow! This restaurant will certainly get your attention when you walk by! (click to enlarge) All images were made with an OM camera and 12-100mm lens. |
I have had a long term project photographing things just for their colors. In other words, the subject of the photograph is the color, not the item. Sometimes the objects I am photographing themselves are unusual colors, sometimes I find the juxtaposition of colors interesting and other times the makes you take notice and are found in places you wouldn't expect. Contrasting color. Complimentary Color, Subtle color. Garish color, It's all good.
Recently, I added five new images to my "Just For The Color" gallery on my website. Here they are. If you are interested in seeing many other images with interesting color combinations, mundane subjects with unusual colors or just want to see what I saw, take a look at my gallery here. Color makes an interesting subject and for visually appealing images.

If you are in a creative rut, adopt a project similar to this. In the past, I've gone out to photograph things I find only with the color red. I've also gone out to photograph only graffiti and old faded signs and billboards. Those are the kinds of things that can open your eyes to seeing things you may have ignored in the past as well as creating images like you've never before created. In the end, you may not share or publish any, but an unusual photo project can pull you our of a photographic rut.
Thanks for looking. Enjoy!

Interesting to see the colors as the subject rather than a contributing element. Actually, it opens a whole new set of potential photo subjects in an area where the more traditional subjects and shapes have already been photographed.
ReplyDeleteVery inspiring.
Thank you. I was first inspired to photograph subjects just for the color by Eric Meola, Pete Turner, Jay Maisel and others after seeing their work in the 1970s in Popular Photography and Modern Photography magazines. I found their images mesmerizing. ~Dennis
