Sometimes the old ways aren't actually better than using the newest, latest and greatest technology. Granted, technology doesn't evoke an emotion as does this image, but it can make life much easier.
I photographed this farmer in what is called Southside Virginia, which is the area of the state that is located in the far south, central region of the state.
Oh! I remember this day very well. It was hot, hot, hot and humid!
Thanks for looking. Enjoy!

I grew up with people and technology like this,in southern Indiana in the 1940s and '50s. I think I've commented on this picture before, as being very reminiscent of the work of photographer Jack-whose-last-name-I-can't-remember. (Senior issues.)
ReplyDeleteFond memories. I did some of this in the garden and in the tobacco field. There was almost a hum when the plow turned the soil, punctuated with an occasion snort from the horse. No noisy diesel tractor needed. I remember my uncle's advice to let the horse lead and just follow and move the plow around at the end of the field. That worked well as Lucy the draft horse knew her work far better than this kid.
