Headwaters Presbyterian Church. (click to enlarge) |
If you have been reading this blog for some time, you probably realize one of my favorite subjects is photographing small, country churches. Particularly, unusual looking churches as well as ones like this—tidy, white clapboard ones. I love this scene. Not only is the setting uncluttered but the white picket fence around the church property, to me, adds a very nice visual element.
This is Headwaters Presbyterian Church located in Headwaters, Virginia. Headwaters, Virginia is located in Highland County, which has been characterized as having the closest climate to New England as there is in Virginia. Headwaters is located on U.S. Route 250, has a population of about 250 or so and got its name from the nearby headwaters of the South Fork of the South Branch of the Potomac River.
If you want to make a very interesting drive and are in the area of the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, take Route 250 west out of Staunton, Virginia and over into West Virginia. It is very scenic, especially this time of year.
Just a note: This image looks great in color as well but black & white is my preference for it.
