Grizzly Bear #399 leads her yearling cub across a meadow in Grand Teton National Park on June 2. (Click to enlarge) |
Famous grizzly bear #399 was struck and killed by a vehicle the other day south of Jackson, Wyoming, outside of the Grand Teton National Park boundaries. I wrote about her in several posts last summer and photographing her was one of the main reasons I made the 23-day road trip from Virginia to Yellowstone and the Tetons.
She was 28 years old, much older than the typical grizzly lifespan, and was the oldest known female to continue to give birth. Interestingly enough is the fact that people from many countries traveled to the Tetons to see her. I met several individuals from Europe, the Middle East and Asia who did just that.
You can read more about her and see more of the images I made in this post.
I’ll just say it was a thrill to have the opportunity to photograph such an extraordinary animal and I’m pleased I was able to make some excellent images of her.
