Monochrome Monday; My First View Of Yosemite National Park, 1995

Tunnel View, Yosemite National Park (click to enlarge)

I made this image with a Pentax 6X7 camera and (I think) the 90mm f/2.8 lens in the spring of 1995.  That was my first visit to Yosemite National Park and this was my first view of the valley.

I clearly remember my sense of awe when my traveling companion and I first emerged from the vehicular tunnel, which is located behind my position.  We pulled into the parking lot to found this before us.  This view is appropriately named, "Tunnel View."

I set up my tripod and made quite a few exposures.  I waited a long time before all of the jet aircraft contrails had dissipated from the distant sky.  Back then there was no software of which I was aware or other manner to remove the modern contrails from a classic composition.

The scan of the negative is not great but, for me, it is about the feelings that are brought back  much more than the technical quality of a film scan.  Content is king.

I still am in awe of this view even though a million images* have been made of it.  The beauty of nature never ceases to amaze.

Is there someplace you visited that creates a feeling of awe and wonder?  If so, share it with us.  If you found it amazing, maybe we will too if we can visit in the future.

*hyperbole, but probably that many or more.

    1. Absolutely inspired by Adams. Seeing his -photographs in magazines in the early 1970s is one of the reasons I dove head first into photography. Seeing his enlargements in person at an exhibit was another level of awe for me. Thanks for your kind words and comment. ~Dennis
