Bluebird with 'ruffled' feathers. (click to enlarge) |
This is more or less a 'throwaway' photograph. It is nothing more than a record of what I saw as I was walking past. I don’t think it has any real artistic value either. I saw this bluebird sitting on the edge of this fence and made a few quick exposures of it as I walked by. That was it. A passing snapshot.
But there is something about this photo that is pleasing to me. I wonder if the colorful bluebird represents the newly appearing colors of spring? A cleansing breath of color after a long and dull winter. Maybe renewal? Maybe it is that the usual bird photos show their feathers as being perfect, but not this one. Kind of like all of us, not perfect. Or, maybe just I like looking at it. I don't know.
But that is one of my joys of photography. I sometimes make an image that pleases me for reasons unknown. It doesn’t have to have meaning or any lasting value. I just like it.
So the lesson I've learned is that if I see something that catches my eye, no matter how mundane, make an exposure or two. It may turn out to be more to me than I originally thought. You might want to try that as well.

Separation between foreground (bird, wood and wire) and background catches my attention, Dennis. It's a good pic, I like it. Second pic, when you open it up, looks superimposed. Possibly due to oversharpening?
ReplyDeleteMichael, I agree. I messed with trying to do some final editing on my old iPad and I hesitated to include it. It just didn’t look right. I’m going to remove the image and paragraph as it really doesn’t add anything to my original reasons for the post. I may re-edit the image and include it in another post. Thank you.
