This scene is a small portion of St. Elmo, Colorado. St. Elmo is a ghost town located in the Rocky Mountains. It was founded in 1880 and basically became a ghost town in 1952 when the postmaster died and the Postal Service closed the post office. You can read more about St. Elmo here if you are interested.
Several years ago I had a business trip planned to Colorado and I had seen images of various ghost towns. While out there I planned to stay a few extra days so I wanted to find a few if I could and photograph them. I purchased a book, I think the name was "Colorado Ghost Towns," but I may be wrong as it was some time ago.
After attending to some business in the state, I set out in my rental vehicle to find some of the elusive ghost towns. St. Elmo was one of them. It was very interesting and very well preserved at the time. It was as though visitors respected the past and didn't vandalize nor steal from what was left. It may still be preserved in this same condition. I thought it well worth the trip up into the backroads of the mountains.
