Great Egret (click to enlarge) |
While out on Virginia's Eastern Shore a couple of weeks ago, I saw this Great Egret standing on part of a downed branch next to a creek. More or less for practice (as it is a common bird and I have literally hundreds of photos of them), I stopped and made several images of it. In this one image I managed to capture this Great Egret positioning itself to preen some feathers. When I later looked at my images, I thought this one appeared as though this bird was engaging in a delicate ballet dance.
Originally, I edited this in color. It was okay but the more I looked at it the more the color became a distraction from the egret’s unusual pose, subtle tonalities and fine textures. This is a good example of when black & white represents a subject better than color.
Stopping to practice photographing an ordinary bird produced a very unusual and pleasing photograph. You never know.
Thanks for looking. Enjoy!
