Here it is. “Downtown” Thurmond, WV. There used to be a couple of stores, two banks and hotel all now closed and abandoned, but this is still a somewhat decent representation of how Thurmond, West Virginia looked at its heyday. Not much to it but fascinating.
There was no street between the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad mainline and the paved ‘sidewalk.’ A little dangerous, maybe, with steam locomotives pulling coal trains through here at speed?
Previously, I posted a photo of the Thurmond postmaster which you can see here. The post office was to my right as I stood and made this photograph. Also, I wrote a bit about Thurmond in that post but if you want more information, check Wikipedia.
Photographically, I still believe Thurmond is well worth a visit. What you don’t also see is the old refurbished passenger train station that is behind me. All of this now belongs to the National Park Service.
