A Few Photos From My Recent West Virginia Small Town Wanderings; Part I

Open air Chevy that's seen better days. (click to enlarge)

If you have been reading this blog lately, you know that I met up with a good friend and fellow photographer to spend a few days wandering around the back roads, small towns and mountains of West Virginia.  Previously, I had published blog posts about specific aspects of the road trip here, here and here, if you care to read about them and view my images.

While wandering around with my camera, I tend to photograph things that catch my eye.  Now, I know my 'photographic eye' is not like most others in that I tend to see the unusual and ordinary.  I often photograph things that others either don't notice or just pass by.  But, that is one of the extraordinary things about photography.  We all get to exercise our unique visions.  We can and should photograph to please ourselves.

Here are a few random images from my recent excursion to West Virginia.

Hillsboro General Store.  I'm not sure for what it is used these days.  Lots of firewood stacked
on the porch, but I don't think it is a working store any longer. (click to enlarge)

In Lewisburg there is an old piano that sits outdoors.  Still plays, however. (click to enlarge)

Phone 200?  How old is that sign? (click to enlarge)

Looks like they are sprouting quite well!  How long have these sacks been sitting here?

Hinton, WV is the only locality I can remember having blue fire hydrants. (click to enlarge)

Gertrude Boone grave marker in a tiny church cemetery in Frankford, WV.
This enormous cedar tree is quickly overtaking the gravesite. (click to enlarge)

Personal vineyard?  What initially caught my eye was the very tall foundation under the building
on the left. (click to enlarge)

On Friday I'll have Part II with a few more  images for your viewing pleasure!
