I’ve driven past his building countless times of the past few years. I’ve wanted to stop and photograph for its unique wall art, but the light never was quite right or I didn’t have the time to stop. Finally, I did stop and made a number of images. I like to photograph these sorts of unique subjects and I find them visually interesting.
But what is the wall art all about? While standing in front of the building and making images of parts and pieces of it, varying the compositions and attempting to make sense out of, seemingly chaos, I only deciphered what I was seeing after I returned to my home and looked at my images in Lightroom. Thinking back, the only way I would have seen the ‘big picture,’ so to speak, would have been to walk across the road and view the building for a time from a much longer distance. The building was very close to the sidewalk and when standing before it, it was difficult to take in more than parts of the painting.
What did I see? A wall of faces!

| If you bring this up full size on your monitor and stand back a few feet, the faces seem apparent. I count at least 11 faces. How many do you see? (click to enlarge) |
But if you go around to the side of back of the building....voila! Color!

Around to the back of the building and I found another face, also in color—evidently, trying to hide behind a bush!
As I mentioned. I enjoy seeking out, finding and photographing unusual sites such as this one. It becomes a challenge to make interesting images from such unusual sights.

Nice! Really like that 1st image and the idea behind it. In my community of Halifax NS I photograph exterior wall art whenever possible. Add character to a community. Big plus for me was having fun practising / learning camera hand holding technique, breathing control, etc for now successful in focus images for a wide area of my photography. And of course more enjoyable pictures for viewing than a plain brick wall.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment. I spent a week in Halifax in October, 2019, just a few months before the start of the pandemic. I very much enjoyed it as well as that part of Nova Scotia. I’m hoping, potentially this fall, to come back and explore Cape Breton since I didn’t get to that last time. I understand that it is photographically rich.
