First 2023 Outing With My X-T5: New Year's Day

When I left my home my intent was to photograph this walking path, which has a nice series of
s-curves, during the foggy morning.  This image reflects the patterns, shapes and diffusion
of the light by the fog as I intended to capture.  All images with a Fujifilm X-T5. (click to enlarge)

On the morning of January 1, 2023, I awoke to a nice inversion layer.  There was a nice layer of fog blanketing the countryside so I thought to myself, "What better way is there to start the new year than to get out and make some images."  That is exactly what I did.  I left the house about 7:45 a.m. and drove to a nearby park with the intention of photographing this walking path, full of s-curves, in the fog.

During my time experimenting with various compositions, focal lengths, apertures and focus points,
a couple of walkers and joggers came by.  In this image, I think  the 'human' element transforms the composition.  The jogger in orange and the walkers in the background completely change the nature
of the photograph.  (click to enlarge)

I grabbed the kit with the X-T5 as I expected to encounter exactly the types of subjects I intend to photograph with it.  The 40mp sensor is perfect for recording the fine detail of landscapes and other like subjects.  For these images I used both the 16-55mm f/2.8 and 70-300mm f/4-5.6 lenses.  Both performed well.  I have no complaints in either lens not resolving the full 40mp and being sharp edge to edge.

I spotted this exposed very large tree root with the English Ivy climbing over it.  I attached the
X-T5 to my tripod, set it about 18 inches above the ground, composed and made a few images.

As I explored my surroundings I knew I had to be quick to make any additional images as the fog
was quickly lifting.  I spotted this line of trees and made a couple of exposures. (click to enlarge)

This is the last image I made, directly into the sun, as the fog now was dissipating quickly.  Across
the wetlands and creek was a line of trees and a boathouse you should be able to see if you
enlarge the image. My goal with this image was to see how well the X-T 5 handled images made
directly into the fog obscured sun. (click to enlarge)

The fog lifted rather quickly and the light was gone so I returned home.  I was very pleased with my hour and a half new year's outing.  The X-T5 and the two lenses I used performed well.  I have no complaints.

I've read and watched a lot of the reviews posted in the past couple of months about this camera.  The most common complaint is about the subject detect autofocus and whether or not it is sufficient.  I'm not concerned about the speed of AF as my intention for using a 40mp digital camera is to conduct a slower, more contemplative type of photography, such as landscapes, travel, close-up and macro, etc.  For speed I have the X-H2S, also of which I am very pleased with how it performs.

As I have mentioned many times in the past, pick the right tool for the right job and so far as I have experienced with this camera, it performs excellently as a landscape camera.  I look forward to using it regularly and posting the images I make with it.
