A Few Photographs From Along Route 66; Tucumcari New Mexico; Part II

On the far west end of town is the Tucumcari Trading Post.  This was made in late
afternoon light. (click to enlarge)

In my last post, I presented some images from photographically rich Tucumcari, New Mexico.  This is part II with some additional images for your viewing pleasure.

How would you like a room at the Kiva Motel?  I love the color combination! (click to enlarge)

Need a place to stay?  Below is the swimming pool for your enjoyment! (click to enlarge)

Tucumcari is well worth a stop.  In fact, we stayed overnight there.  Along a few of the I-40 exits to Tucumcari, there are hotels, restaurants and truck stops.  We preferred to eat in one of the old locally owned and operated restaurants along the old road.  We found them to have a much better atmosphere and the servers to be excellent, friendly.  Oh!  The food was good as well.

Our next photographic stop along Route 66 is Seligman, Arizona.  Another photographically rich destination.

  1. I've been enjoying your photos Dennis and your previous trip details.

Not sure if you saw this, and I only saw a short preview, but PBS is starting a series tonight called the Great Muslim American Road Trip, and it follows a couple as they drive Route 66.

    1. Thanks, Jim. I’ll check out the program. I’ve done Route 66 twice and I would probably do it again as there is always something new to see or something that was missed.

  2. Excellent photos of classic Americana. Plus it's always encouraging to see guys my age hitting the road and taking wonderful photos along the way. I'm also impressed with the Nikon 24-200mm that served you so well on your recent trip. I'm in the process of replacing my 13-year-old computer, but once the new machine is set up and I can run current editing software I may look into a Z camera with the 24-200mm. Hopefully Nikon will offer some Christmas discounts this year.

    1. Jon, thanks for the compliment. I’ve done Route 66 in its entirety twice and I would do it again! It’s a fascinating journey. If you’re willing, check out when Nikon has a sale on their refurbished gear. I’ve bought many lenses and a couple of cameras directly from them and have never had an issue. Everything looks and works like new. That is where I bought my Z7II and my 24-20mm lens. I saved hundreds of dollars.

    2. Thanks for the suggestion. I have bought a few refurbished cameras, lenses and flash units and they've all been fine. I think most of my refurb gear came from the now-closed Cameta Camera, so I'll start watching Nikon's site and hopefully get lucky!
