On The Road To Chincoteague Island

I found this small copse of trees in an out of the way park adjacent to the barrier islands of the Atlantic Ocean.  I thought they would make an interesting image with the lifting fog and moodiness of
the day.  IMHO black and white is a must for this image.
All images made with a Fujifilm X-T4 and 16-55mm f/2.8 lens.  (click to enlarge)

As I mentioned in my last post, two photography buddies and I met up for our annual photography get together on Chincoteague Island on Virginia's Eastern Shore.  You can read about our side trip to Ocean City, Maryland and how the driving rain and sleet soaked my Fujifilm X-T4 and the 16-55mm f/2.8 lens here.

Driving to Chincoteague on a Monday morning brought heavy fog in places close to the abundant bodies of water in the region.  The warm, moist air from a southwesterly wind combined with the much cooler water temperatures caused fog to blanket the area.  However, I left well before sunrise so traffic, i.e., other crazy drivers, weren't going to be a safety issue in the fog.

On the way to Chincoteague, I always wander the backroads and small towns of the Eastern Shore as, in many places, it is a throwback to the 1960s if not earlier.  For example, there is a photographically beautiful yellow old-fashioned stainless steel diner in the small town of Exmore.  You can see some photos I had previously made of the diner here.  There used to be many old derelict fishing boats that had been washed into the wetlands by Atlantic storms but most of those have now been removed.  That's good for the environment but bad for photographers.  However, if you slowly prowl among the small towns and back roads either east or west of the main road through the Eastern Shore, Route 13, you can still find very interesting things to photograph.  As many times as I have driven the area, there are always new finds.

Here are a few other images from my drive to Chincoteague.

There was another interesting copse of trees in the same park.  That said, I like this less than the
image above. (click to enlarge)

I do like the top photo a lot.  The rest are so-so, but I enjoy being out in the countryside, wandering and hunting for interesting subjects.

Here are a few non-wildlife images from Chincoteague Island itself.

I've photographed this wreck several times over the years.  The series of photographs make an
interesting record of its slow disintegration. (click to enlarge)

Looks like more than one campground failed.  Mostly likely they lost their way.
Why?  Obviously, they didn't know which was was north!  Lol (click to enlarge)

Walk this way! (click to enlarge)

Finally,

A toilet, a child's car and an old dental chair.  Don't ask me.  I have no idea why these items
were left here. (click to enlarge)

In my next post, I'll show you some images of a kind which I almost never make.
