In my last post, I wrote about taking a 'photo walk' in a small town, for three blocks along Main Street, with an open mind and for the purpose of seeing things I had largely ignored in my many past walks along the same sidewalks. If you haven't read that post, I encourage you to do so before looking at these images as it will put them in better context. You can find that post here.
In today's post, I'll show you a few of the images I made walking east on the south side of the street, working my way back to where I began.
One thing that surprised me while editing these images was the lack of objectionable digital noise. These images were made at ISOs from 160 to 6400. In almost all cases, even while editing, I really didn't notice any objectionable noise so I didn't think to apply noise reduction.

Kid, trying to sound like an adult, making phone call to the drug store, "Do You have Prince Albert in a can?"
Druggist: "Yes we do."
Kid, now trying to hold in his laughter, "Well you better let him out!" and quickly hangs up the phone.
(I thought of that old prank when I saw these cans of Prince Albert tobacco in the window of an antique shop.) Sorry for the lame joke, but I had to... :-)
Again, nothing portfolio worthy but more of an exercise for practice, in seeing beyond the obvious and trying to make something interesting out of really nothing interesting. All in all, a satisfying endeavor for me. I'll go back under different light and probably in the blue hour as well. Also, next time I plan to capture more of the human element.

Do it! Just grab your camera and get out and wander and do more than look. See!
Thanks for looking. Enjoy!

Good tip Dennis -
ReplyDeleteWe forget that life even happens close to us. Much of my general and wildlife photos are from inside a WI suburban town - within 2 miles of my house - It's a grab a camera and get on my bike situation. Similar to the 1954 James Stewart Rear Window movie, but without the murder included.
Thanks, Chris. Sometimes we get trapped into thinking only good images can be made when we travel to exotic (as compared to home) places. Also, Rear Window is my all time favorite movie!
DeleteLove that movie too - I have some questions on axillary police planning - Can you do a call on this?
DeleteThanks - Chris
Sure Chris. Glad to help. Call me tomorrow after 2 pm Eastern time.
Delete"P.A." was my grandpa's pipe tobacco. He always carried one of the flask cans in his jacket pocket and had a round larger can on the table next to his chair at home. Your image sure takes me back to a time long ago. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment Mike. Glad you liked the photos.
