I Can't Even Come Up With An Appropriate Caption For This Image!

What is your favorite caption for this photo? (click to enlarge)
Fujifilm X-T4; 100-400mm f4.5-5.6 lens @ 261mm; 1/125th sec. @ f/13; ISO 4000

I can't come up with a single best caption for this image.  I can come up a many, but none that is more appropriate than others.  I'll let you come up with your own caption.

I went out wandering the other day.  I went out with the intent to photograph mainly from my vehicle as I sometimes do when the heat index is over 100 degrees F (38 C).  As I passed an old, historic cemetery, I decided to drive through and see what I could find to add to my "Gardens of the Dead" project that I post on my website here.  As I was leaving the cemetery I looked to my left and saw this site.  It was creepy, to say the least.

The connotation of cemetery, headstones and black vultures who eat by scavenging dead flesh immediately came to mind.  I 'had' to make some images.  How could I not?

I grabbed the X-T4, removed the 16-55mm f/2.8 and attached the 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 and made some handheld images from my driver's seat.  I isolated these three black vultures for this image but there were a dozen scattered about just out of frame.  The problem with including more was the hodge-podge of gravestones blocking a clear view and not allowing a wider composition.  That said, I was happy with the image displayed with this post.

Then, as I put away my camera and neared the cemetery's entrance, I saw more black vultures.  All in all, there must have been 30 of them.  I've not seen them before in this cemetery and it was too early in the day to roost, I guess they were either hungry (I'm sorry that is an awful thought!) or were using the abundant shade to escape the radiant heat of the direct sun.

If you have a favorite caption for this image, please comment.  I'll post your comments and others can enjoy your thought process.

I had thought of "Guarding Dinner," "Fighting For Leftovers," "Display of Force," "Lunch to go," "Desert on the wing," etc., but none that are not grizzly in thought.  Just my twisted mind, I guess!

  2. Dennis, this is a bit off topic. I have been comparing at length the Olympus 100-400 to the Fuji 100-400 w/ 1.4 Tele. EM1m2 and Fuji XH1. I couldn't see a difference, except the Fuji images were a bit bigger (Sensor and Resolution). Ergonomics are very similar, but the XH1 seems a bit easier to use with those dials on top. At any rate, you have often said there is little difference... I agree. But Fuji may have a bit more future potential.

I'm returning the Olympus and lenses.

    1. Rudiger, I am not surprised by your observations and I agree with what you said. In my experience the differences only become apparent at the extremes of photography, that is when the light is lower, etc., then the sensor size differences just start to become apparent. One of the reasons I gave up on m4/3 is because it has become unknown as to when OMD may come out with a camera with the improvements of which I am interested and which catches them up to everyone else. I still believe in the system and have made some of my best photographs with m4/3 gear but what is the future? In the mean time, I’m loving using my X-T4!
