This week I took a two and a half day excursion to the Eastern Shore of Virginia and Maryland. The travel and photography bug had bitten me to the point where I needed to get out, go somewhere and photograph. One of my favorite places for wandering the back roads as well as bird photography is Virginia's Eastern Shore. So, off I went.
On Wednesday, I made the hour long drive over to Deal Island in Maryland. I wanted to see if the historic sailing boats, called Skipjacks, were still in existence and based at the island. More about that next week. However, in my explorations of the island, I saw a couple of old, white clapboard churches that I made a mental note to photograph before I left the island.
On my way off the island, I stopped at St. John's United Methodist Church as it was visually interesting and, even more interesting, had an old cemetery on the grounds. As I walked across the road to make a record of the church's sign, I looked up and saw the image I've posted here.
What should I title this? I thought maybe "The Omen" might fit. In any case, I'll call it serendipity—a delightful and unexpected find.
Keep your eyes open. That means looking up as well as looking down. Don't just look at what's right in front of you. You never know what you may see.
More images and narrative about my short, but productive photography trip next week.
Thanks for looking. Enjoy!
