First Foray Out In My New Location

What caught my attention was the bicycle on the porch as well as the trash can to the right telling
me that this old house is still occupied.  I turned around, came back and made a few exposures
from the driver's seat of my vehicle. (click to enlarge)

As most of you know, my wife and I sold our house of 23+ years and have moved to a small town not too far from where we used to live in Newport News, Virginia.  Now, out of an urban area, I can more easily get out into the countryside and wander, looking for the things I enjoy discovering.  Things such as old barns, old dilapidated farm houses, small country cemeteries, abandoned country stores, gas stations long ago closed, old infrastructure and the like.  In addition, I'm always on the lookout for pleasing intimate landscapes.

The other day, I did venture out for the first time for a short drive into the local countryside.  I didn't find much, but I did find a few things of interest to which I may return when the light is better.  Here is what I found on my first foray from our new location.

This old farmhouse sits abandoned in what seems to be a very prominent place in the countryside

There were two angel statues in this small country cemetery I discovered.  As I have had
a 'cemetery' project going on for some years, this will be added to that
collection. (click to enlarge)

I'm glad I found this old, vine encrusted barn from the 19th century when I did.  Several of the
buildings surrounding it, including the old farmhouse, have already been demolished.  You can't
see it from this vantage point, but behind the barn and to the left are debris piles as well as
machinery to demolish these structures.  I'm sure it is now no longer standing.  I find that
a shame. (click to enlarge)

There is nothing spectacular or noteworthy with any of these images.  My foray out in my new location was an exercise just to see what potential there is for future wanderings.
