A Welcome Sign!

Each mid-September, a very small section of my Japanese dogwood tree's leaves will turn red.  Just 10-15 leaves, typically.  No more than that.  I take this tiny bit of color as a welcome sign that the hot, humid Virginia summer days are coming to end and Autumn will soon be upon us.  The rest of the tree's leaves won't typically turn red until the second week of November, which traditionally has been been when peak leaf color in is seen in southeastern Virginia.

But, I'll take this as a welcome sign and smile knowing that fall, my favorite season, is on its way!
