I regularly listen to quite a few podcasts. They range from photography related, science, history, true crime and even some paranormal stuff. All of those I find interesting for one reason of another.
During my daily walk the other day I listened to The Lens Rentals Podcast episode entitled, "How To Disinfect Camera Equipment And Spaces." Very interesting and helpful. Roger Cicala, the founder of Lensrentals.com is a medical doctor (anesthesiologist) who ended up giving up his practice for the camera and lens renting business. He discusses how this Covid-19 virus is killed, what makes a good disinfectant, how to use them, the length of time the virus remains active on surfaces, etc. He and his co-hosts also talk about the procedure they use at Lensrentals to disinfect and clean all of the gear that goes out and returns and their recommendations for cleaning your gear—what to use and what not to use.
I found the podcast very informative and I learned quite a bit. For example, they stated that when you mix a small portion of bleach to make a disinfecting solution, it loses its disinfecting properties after 24 hours. I didn't know that. Also, clothes dryer sheets can be kept in a pocket or purse and be used to grasp handles, etc. as they are in a class of chemical agents that will kill these nasty bugs. I didn't know that either. Much less messy than trying to carry wet disinfectant wipes. This podcast is not only are photographic in nature, but of good general information that all of us can use in the future.
I recommend if you have an opportunity to listen to this episode. Just trying to be helpful when I find something that may be of help to others...
DISCLAIMER: I am not affiliated with Lensrentals.com, Dr. Cicala or any member of the staff in any way. I have not yet done business with them but from everything I know about the company, they are a fine company with which to do business. I may do so in the future as I occasionally rent camera gear. If I do, I'll be paying the same prices as do you.
Thanks for looking. Enjoy!
