The Story Behind The Image; Man, Dog, Cat, Mouse

Man, dog, cat, mouse.  Bisbee, Arizona. 2006 (click to enlarge)
If you look closely there is a white mouse riding on the back of the cat.

This image literally was a grabshot—a very quick snapshot.  My wife and I left Tombstone, Arizona to drive the 23 miles south to Bisbee, Arizona.  Upon arrival, as we were slowly driving on Bisbee's main street, I happened to casually glance to my left and spotted this man walking his dog.  No big deal.  A lot of people walk their dogs.  Something about it looked different, however.  At first, it didn't register.  Then I realized the oddity.  On the dog's back was a cat.  That's different.  Then I spotted a mouse on the cat's back.  When I grasped what I was seeing, he was well past us.  I grabbed my camera, turned it on, quickly pointed it out of the car window, composed as best I could then pressed the shutter.  One shot only.  JPEG.  I wish I would have caught him coming toward us but at least I made a snapshot of this unusual sight.

I think...I later saw this guy allowing people to pose with his animals for a small fee.  Since Bisbee seems to be somewhat of an eclectic artists' haven, this may be his art, so to speak.

Also, I had been told that there was a RV park in Bisbee which only allowed old, vintage RVs.  Later, as we drove around, I found the park and made the image just below.  At the time this was an RV park that only allowed old RVs and trailers—nothing newer than about the mid-1960s, I think?  I'm probably wrong on that date, but nonetheless, only old RVs and trailers were admitted.  Now, it's sort of a unique hotel called The Shady Dell with old RVs and buses are permanently parked.  You can stay overnight in your choice of old RVs.

Bisbee was a short, but interesting visit.  From weird animal relationships to vintage RV parks to a huge open air copper mine next to the road, Bisbee was worth seeing.

  1. That is something you don't see every day! Great catch. The RV park is very neat as well.

    1. Thanks Shelly. Sometime later I saw this guy on a national news program or one of those human interest TV shows. One rogue moment and his cash cow (cat!) is gone!
