In mid-December a couple of friends and I made our annual trek to Virginia's and Maryland's Eastern Shore to photograph wildlife.  Even though the primary reason for the trip was wildlife, that doesn't mean I don't keep my eyes peeled for other subjects of interest.  You can find out much more about the weekend and view additional images if you take a look at my original post here.

In the mean time, some images from that same weekend.

This year was the first time I've ever experienced fog on our early winter wildlife weekend.

Young Sika Elk; Sika Elk (commonly misnamed Sika deer)were brought to the Eastern Shore in the early 20th
century for hunting. They are small, typically only 2.5 ft. (76 cm) tall at the rump. (click to enlarge)

Snow geese on the move.  They are interesting to watch as some seem to assume the role of "guardian" while others
just feed without much regard to their surroundings. (click to enlarge)

  1. Forget about the birds. The other photos in this post would make a great start to your book "Coastal Virginia."

    1. Thanks Dave but it WAS a bird and wildlife weekend! LOL. As much as I try to concentrate on birds and wildlife, I often found my eyes wandering toward the old, unusual, neglected and other signs of man from the past. You’ve got me thinking about it now....
