I have now copied about 1800 of my 35mm slides. I still have a long way to go. I don't find the work tedious. Just the opposite—interesting. I find that, as I place these slides in front of my lens, I get a bit surprised as to what I find. I had forgotten about many of these images I made over the past decades. It is a bit like walking down memory lane. Often times, I find myself smiling and mentally reminiscing. Once I see an image, almost always I can tell you exactly where and when that particular image was made. There are few slides that I can't remember where they were taken. For example, the image at the top of this post was made in 2001 on the property of Hank Snow in Boykins, Virginia, which is almost on the VA/NC state border. I was there with one of my photo buddies and we were out photographing in southern Virginia and northern North Carolina that day. Its a wonder about how those memories instantly return.
This summer project has become a wonderful awakening of my past photographic travels. It is nice to find forgotten gems. Also, it is interesting to find myself thinking, "Why in the world did I photograph that?" Lol.
I've slightly changed my slide copying procedure. I'll write about that in a week or so. As I have gone through and copied slides, I found some changes work better than my original settings. Nothing major, but I'll pass them along for your benefit.
