Happy Independence Day America!

This flag is one of the designs that officially flew representing the Colonies.  Thirteen stripes and thirteen stars.  This image
was made on the actual battlefield where the American Revolutionary War was ended and the establishment of the
United States was ensured—Yorktown, Virginia (click to enlarge)
It was a scant 243 years ago that a declaration for a new country was crafted and signed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  Still a young country by historical standards, the United States brought a new kind of government (Democratic Republic) to the world and flourished.

Today we in the United States celebrate our Declaration of Independence from the Mother Country, England.  After a hard fought war with England, the United States of America's place in history was firmly established.  The flag above flies upon the very battlefield where the American Revolutionary War ended and the country's future was ensured.

Certainly no country is perfect because no man or woman is perfect.  The United States has its greatness and has its faults because it is a county of diverse men, women and children each of which has the freedom of independent thought, speech and expression.  There is no and can never be a government mandate to express only official policy, official religion or official beliefs.  There is great strength is our individual differences.

The diversity of America and what differences exists among our diverse population is one of the reasons the United States has become as successful as it has over the past almost 2 1/2 centuries.

As I was driving a small country road through rural North Carolina, I spotted this flag on this old barn.  How could I
not stop and photograph it? (click to enlarge)

I love my country and am proud to be an American!  I hope you love your country as well.

Happy Birthday America!

Thanks for looking. Enjoy!
