Did you ever have a tool, car, shirt, hat, old coat, lens, camera, shoes, camera bag, pair of jeans, etc. that has served you well for a number of years? Have you come to love that old friend and it seems like it has become a part of your routine, whatever that may be? Whatever the object is just feels right and you know its attributes and faults inside and out?
Has there come a time when your old friend has just had enough and it is time to replace it? That is where I am with my old White Mule leather gloves. I've known they have needed replacing for several years but I just didn't want to give them up.
I bought these White Mule leather gloves in April, 1990, just over 28+ years ago. I remember because I bought them when we first moved into our last home. I've now put thousands of hours into them and they have been good to me. They have unfailingly protected my hands and kept them from being cut, scraped, burned, calloused and bruised. These gloves have just worked well over and over again. I really don't like thinking about having to replace them but its time.
Now its time to find another pair just like them. The next pair may just outlive me this time. It is time, I guess, to make a new friend.
