Yes, it is July 4th, but July 4th is not the holiday. July 4th is the day the holiday is celebrated. It is more properly Independence Day! The day in the United States we celebrate our beginnings as a country. The day the Founding Fathers decided freedom was the most important thing and took the drastic, treasonous step to declare independence from the Mother Country, England. Everyone who signed the Declaration of Independence in July, 1776 was then considered a traitor and would be condemned to death by the King of England. Signing took more guts than most of us will ever have.
Originally, I wrote a rant about how government has evolved (not for the better) and just how much our freedoms have been eroded. But I deleted it. I just want to remember how brave our Founding Fathers were when they each decided freedom from what they believed was a tyrannical King was worth dying for and willingly signed their death warrants by signing the Declaration of Independence.
My thanks to all those who have lived before me and played a part in us being free today. I am forever grateful.
I hope each of you have a meaningful and thoughtful Independence Day.
