Inexpensive Yet Effective Solution For The Fuji X-T2

Fotasy Universal L Quick Release Bracket

When I received my X-T2 on September 12th, there was no dedicated L-bracket available from Really Right Stuff or any other manufacturer that I could find.  An L-bracket is an essential accessory for me.  Really Right Stuff has always been my "go to" company for high quality tripod related products.  My problem with waiting for one to be available was that I was leaving on an extended road trip on September 21st and needed an L-bracket for the camera as I anticipated extensive tripod work.  What to do?

After looking around carefully, I purchased the "Fotasy LPM Universal L Quick Release Bracket for Arca Swiss Type Tripod Ball Head with Premier Cleaning Cloth (Black)" from Amazon.com for a few good reasons.

First, it was made of aluminum and the specs showed it would mount properly on my X-T2.  Not too long and not too short.  Second, it has a mounting 1/4 x 20 bolt that allows me to mount this to the bottom of my camera without using any tools other than my thumb and forefinger.  The bolt can be tightened by hand and not a hex wrench.  Third, it was $10 US and with a Prime membership, no shipping.  Fourth, it came with a very nice micro fiber lens cleaning cloth at no extra charge.  Finally, if it wasn't very good and didn't work well, I wasn't out much money.

This is all well and good, but in the end, how did it work?

I'm happy to report it worked splendidly.  I used the bracket everyday over the course of more than three weeks and over 2500 images.  The L-bracket mounted securely on the bottom of my camera.  It did not twist, slide nor move once securely mounted (tightened by hand).  The thumb-tightened mounting bolt did not come loose.  In both vertical and horizontal positions, the device worked as well as my previous $100+ RRS L-brackets of the past.

I did notice one shortfall, although in my opinion, not one that was very bothersome to me.  In order to remove the battery from the bottom of the camera, I had to loosen, then slide the L-bracket over an inch or so to fully clear the battery door.  I didn't have to fully remove it, just loosen the bolt and slide it out of the way.  But, because removing it requires no tools, moving the bracket then realigning it was quick and effortless.

So for less than $10 US versus the Really Right Stuff L-bracket, currently selling for $80 but as of my writing this, not yet available, I'll take the inexpensive one.  If, in the future, it fails to meet my needs, I can always buy the RRS L-bracket and only be out ten bucks. In the mean time, I have an L-bracket with which to work.

You can consider this or go with the big boys.  Your choice.  Here is the Amazon link so you can at least check it out and decide for yourself:

Thanks for looking. Enjoy!
