The Story Behind The Image; Watching The Watchers

The Watchers (click to enlarge)
A scan from a 35mm film negative.
One of my duties as a chief of police was to participate in several parades each year.  Our normal perspective is that of one who watches parades and those who are passing by. Since I have a habit of carrying a camera almost always, even when participating in a parade, I thought it would be interesting to snap a few images looking back at those who were looking at us!  This is one of those from the mid-1990s.

After looking at several of these, it becomes apparent that the crowds don't necessary look at who is in front of them, but who is coming next.

Just an interesting little image with a different perspective.

Thanks for looking. Enjoy!

  1. The crowd is like a guy w/ the TV remote. We don't care about what's on, we care about what ELSE is on!

  2. An unrelated observation of the posted image: no one seems happy! Hey folks, this is a parade, let's see some smiles.
