That Time Of The Year

Early winter each year is when some photographer friends and I take a long weekend and go out and photograph wildlife, mainly migrating birds. I'm looking forward to that upcoming trip.  Living in the city it feels really good to get out into the country, into the wetlands and enjoy the sounds and sights of nature. It reminds me of my youth where I grew up on the edge of a small town and spent most of my time in the woods with my friends.

Wildlife photography has not been one of my mainstays, as regular readers know.  I typically photograph landscapes, nature and travel.  Also, as the title of this blog reflects, I love to just wander around and see what photographically I can find.  But, over the past several years, wildlife photography is something in which I have gained a higher interest and plan to pursue more in the future.  Why?

I want to expand my photographic skills.  I want to learn new things, explore and continue to accomplish more in my photographic life.  I want to learn more about wildlife.  I want to be able to add more life skills.  I want options to go out to photograph more diverse subjects.  I don't want to become stale, safe or locked into what "I always have done."

Several years ago, I walked away from a high paying CEO position.  Why?  I wanted to learn new things, do something different, sharpen my skills and work with people who could energize my mind and get excited me about work once again.  I did and it was a freeing experience.  Just something to think about.

Thanks for looking. Enjoy!
