A Day Off And A Short Trip

In many cities, counties and states in America, as well as the United States Federal government, October 12th is a holiday.  Called Columbus Day, the holiday celebrates the traditional historical view that Christopher Columbus discovered American on that date in the year 1492.

I think everyone pretty much accepts by now that Columbus did not discover America in 1492.  It is well documented that the Vikings reached North American around 1000 A.D. and there is evidence that even before that, others may have been here.

But, when you have a holiday, no one wants to lose the holiday, so they gladly hold on to the old version of history to save their day off!

Having a day off, my wife and I drove the 1/2 hour to Williamsburg, Virginia and decided to walk around Colonial Williamsburg so I could see what I could photograph that may be of interest.

Being that I have photographed in Colonial Williamsburg more times that I can remember, I have literally hundreds of interesting images from that historical venue.  However, I always find it interesting and always enjoy walking the streets.  I seem to always find some new images whenever I go.  I don't photograph the obvious as much since I have so many images, but look for the obscure, the things others may not see.

Here are just three of the several I made on Monday that I thought I would share.  Nothing special, but a walk through Colonial Williamsburg always makes for a pleasant experience.  After all, it was a beautiful early fall day.

If you are interested in seeing many more images of Colonial Williamsburg, look at the Williamsburg gallery on my website here.  I think you may enjoy what you see.

Thanks for looking. Enjoy!
