Which USCG Cutter Eagle Images Gave Me The Most Satisfaction?
I have been writing about the USCGC Eagle mooring outside my office window and the opportunity it presented to make images of it as a whole, details as well as its crew. You can read about and see some of the images here, here, here, and here.
I planned it so I would use a different camera system on each of the three days of its visit. On day one, I used my Olympus E-M1, day two my Nikon D810 and day three, my Fujifilm X-T1.
Some images were shot through a very dirty office window (Olympus and Fuji) and some were made while I was on board the vessel (Nikon). Which images did I end up liking the most? Which gave me the color, resolution, sharpness and overall image "look" that pleased me the most? The answer is the Olympus.
In fact, I was pretty disappointed with the Fuji images as compared to the Olympus images taken from the same vantage point under the same conditions. They just didn't seem to have the crisp detail nor the color rendition that I preferred. As for the Nikon, the images were beautiful with rich colors, full detail, etc. However, I came to realize while using the D810, that I am over optical viewfinders. I really missed the EVF and the ability to "see" the final image before I pressed the shutter.
The Olympus wins for me (your mileage may vary, of course) in this particular circumstance.
Thanks for looking. Enjoy!

I would have to strongly. No. Wait Vehemently disagree with you there my friend. :)
ReplyDeleteI have used Olympus. I just recently sold off my Nikon Gear (D800 and other bodies and lenses) and now use Fuji exclusively. I have to say, IMHO, the FUJI files are hard to beat.
However, I still like your blog and look forward to more posts!
Best,
J
Thank you J, for your comment and the kind words. My point was, that in this particular circumstance, under the conditions I made these particular images, the Olympus images looked the best to me. I continue to have a "love/not so much love" relationship with my X-T1 in the manner that the files look great on anything but green foliage and very fine detail while being processed in Lightroom. I can't take anything away from the Fuji, my fault is with Adobe.
DeleteAgain, thanks for the kind words and I'll continue to try to write about things that may be of interest and share images that I find others may like.
Beautiful composition. You were so fortunate that you had accommodating clouds during this vessel's visit to your port! Or, at least on this day and time. ---Peter
ReplyDeletePeter, I had to put in an order for those clouds several weeks in advance! As hot and humid as it was those three days, the skies looked really nice as compared to the blank whiteness of solid cloud cover we normally get.
DeleteAnd your order was nicely filled! The white clouds are in just the right location for this image!
