Over the years I have learned that there are images from my past that really didn't appeal to me at the time but now strike me as very interesting and even pleasing. I don't know exactly what has changed in my vision—maybe experience, age, maturity (in other words getting a lot older) but I find this occurring repeatedly. So, I started the habit of occasionally going back in time and re-looking at my images with "fresh eyes," as I like to say.
I made this image on a Norfolk, Virginia public beach in 2005 as I casually walked the sidewalk above. It was a quick grab shot. One frame only. The kids were there, then the opportunity was quickly gone. I really never gave it another thought until a year or so ago and now something about the colors, composition and the dynamic angle of the kids in motion caught my attention. What once was forgotten in my image catalog now captures my intereest.
I would recommend that each of you occasionally go back and look through your old images and I bet you will rediscover ones you thought weren't very good at the time.
Thanks for looking. Enjoy!
