This Is The America You Don't Often See On The News

Typical neighborhood parade to celebrate Independence Day (July 4) in an average American city (click to enlarge)
This is the "real" America.  Real people doing real things.  Not what you see or read in the news.
Today's news feed is mostly crime, destruction by horrific weather events, terrorist attacks, political infighting, racial unrest, hate, controversy of all kinds, etc.  Seldom do you see the real America with ordinary citizens living their lives.  The vast majority of ordinary Americans don't want anything but the best for everyone else.  They look out for each other, try to help one another, do the right things for the right reasons—i.e., care about each other.  Daily, we are often inundated by the news media by the actions, or more appropriately inactions, of our overly partisan, self-serving and paralyzed national elected officials who seem more concerned about being re-elected than the welfare of everyday citizens.  The people of this country have not lost their way, are not war mongers, greedy, insensitive or only care about money, but if you watch the news, you may start to believe that.

I wanted to show my readers a typical Independence Day parade in an ordinary neighborhood full of good people enjoying the parade, smiling, having fun, living ordinary lives and celebrating the birth of their country.  This is the real America.

Many of my images can be found at www.dennismook.com.  Please pay it a visit.  I add new images regularly. I've just added a gallery featuring all M4/3 images.  Soon, I will be adding a gallery of all Fuji X-Trans images. Thank you.

Thanks for looking.  Enjoy!

  1. Good to see a traditional 4th of July activity. In far too many communities now Independence Day has become Idiot's Day, with endless accounts of fireworks setting brush fires, burning down homes, blowing off fingers or hands, and injuring children. One guy here in California even electrocuted himself after firing a gun in the air, bringing a power line down on him.

  2. No, no, no! Dennis. This is the America the media doesn't want you to see, and if they show it, it is only to express their contempt for it.
